Spain's Ruler
The role of the ruler in Spain was an absolutist monarchy. However, it declined rather quickly. The Dutch and English began to cut into Spain's trade. Spain's supply of silver began to decline resulting in lack of money. The king at the time, Philip 4th, created The Treaty of the Pyrenees of 1659. This treaty ended the FrenchSpanish wars, marking the end of Spain as a great power.
